About Me.
Born in Florida, John Hosford graduated from Ringling School of Art and Design in Sarasota in 1999. A fine arts major, Hosford studied under the late, great narrative painter Leslie Lerner. Greatly influenced by Lerner's style and with a desire to be in the center of the art world, Hosford moved to New York City soon after graduation. He has artworks in the private collections of baseball legend Dwight Gooden and super model Guinevere van Seenus. Now back in his home state of Florida, Hosford is painting epic narrative landscapes in oil. These dreamlike scenes pull from childhood memories as well as his everyday surroundings, often juxtaposed with seemingly disparate images, conveying something of the sublime. Art critic and publisher of Artcritical magazine, David Cohen, said of Hosford’s painting, ‘Magic in the Window’, (2020, Alpha 137 Gallery), “A luminous evocation of longing; sentimental, but in the best sense, conveying a genuine emotion.”
